COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENSE / INSTRUMENT RATING (CPL/IR) WITH FROZEN AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT LICENSE (ATPL)

CPL/IR with Frozen ATPL is a professional pilot training programme designed for individuals pursuing airline careers, providing the qualifications and operational readiness required for airline pilots

The programme comprises approved ground school instruction and supervised flight training conducted in accordance with CAAM and ICAO standards for commercial airline operations

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to enrol in the CPL/IR with Frozen ATPL programme:

  • Applicants must have attained a minimum age of 17 years old

    Completion of SPM, IGCSE, or equivalent, with a minimum of five (5) credits, including English, Mathematics, and Science subjects

  • Obtain a Letter of Approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) together with academic qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Class I Medical Examination and possession of a valid medical certificate issued by a CAAM-Designated Medical Examiner (DME)

  • Successful completion of IATAC’s Harrison Assessment and interview

Ground School Training

IATAC provides comprehensive Ground School training covering the CAAM ATPL theoretical knowledge syllabus, as required for the issuance of the CPL/IR

  • Total ground school duration: 800 hours

  • Delivered through structured classroom instruction, examinations, and progressive assessments

Phase 1 – 430 Hours

  • Aircraft General Knowledge (Systems)

  • Human Performance & Limitations

  • Meteorology

  • Principles of Flight

  • Aircraft General Knowledge (Instruments)

  • VFR Communications

  • IFR Communications

Phase 2 – 360 Hours

  • General Navigation

  • Radio Navigation

  • Flight Planning & Monitoring

  • Mass & Balance

  • Air Law

  • Operational Procedures

  • Performance​

Flying Phase Training

The Flying Phase represents the practical core of the programme, where students apply theoretical knowledge through real-world flight operations

Training is conducted on PA-28 or DA40NG and DA42NG aircraft, complemented by FNPT II simulator training
The total flight training requirement, inclusive of the CPL/IR Skill Test, comprises a minimum of 200 flight hours, structured as follows:

  • Single-Engine Aircraft (SE): 135 hours

  • Multi-Engine Aircraft (ME): 25 hours

  • FNPT II Flight Simulator: 40 hours

This integrated approach ensures graduates are technically proficient, operationally disciplined, and fully prepared for airline-entry standards
